I once was a respectable man,
Had a wife and two children;
Was then the wealthiest man richer than I,
When I sat playing with them?

Until a dark fury came over me,
And put an end to my happy life-
I lost my job,
And I wasn't earning a penny.

I was dragged around by different gangs,
Taken along on bandit holdups,
Robbing people became my business,
Until I was convicted to hard labor.
